An Audio Footnote

This quick post is an audio footnote to Monday's entry, "Ravenstahl In The New York Times".

You can listen in to the 22 second mp3 file to hear the mayor confirm that there never was a "flip-flops" controversy.

This is hysterical.

It also begs the question of how the flipflopgate made its way into the New York Times article.

If I wanted to I could take to my blog and insist that he greased the story in to look sympathetic ... but then he's right. I'd just be talking about flipflops some more.

The only person media, blogger or politician I've ever seen or heard talk about the flip flops is Luke.

I heard him mention it on Marty's radio show and at the time I thought he was just trying to distract people from what ever bellyflop he had just done.

You'll note that my question was not about "flip-flops" themselves at all; it was about whether anyone in the media other than the sympathetically joking talk show host had ever brought this up to him. The mayor confirmed that the only instance was the sympathetic joke, not a criticism.

His answer went further, confirming--as the Times reporter had--that it was the mayor himself who cited this subject to The New York Times as an example of "criticism" he faced.

Hasn't anyone else connected the dots? 1) Buchanan is US Attorney appointed by Bush. 2) Gonzales and others purged 8 Republican US Attorneys from their positions because they weren't "loyal Bushies." 3) Buchanan was on the list of potential US Attorneys to fire. (Washington Post online article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/16/AR2007051602874.html) 4)Ravenstahl is Democratic 5) Buchanan goes after Democratic Mayor Ravenstahl for a seemingly minor technical violation of the rules about the use of a certain police vehicle. So it is not about using the vehicle in violation of some rule. It is solely because Buchanan wants to garner favor with her boss(es) and keep her job so she will go after any Democratic politician that she can.
